Typhoid Fever Is Also Know As Enteric Fever .Typhoid Is Caused By Salmonella Typhi.
There Are Two Types Of Enteric Fever
• Typhoid Fever
• Parathyroid Fever
Symptoms Of Typhoid Fever Are :
• Fever
• Severe Headache
• Anorexia [Eating Disorder]
• Relative Bradycardia [P = 0.003]
• Splenomegaly [ Enlargement Of Spleen( फियो को बृद्धि)]
Incubation Period : 10-14 days
Mode Of Infection :
• It’s transmitted by Faecal-Oral Route
• It’s also transmitted by Contaminated Water,Milk & Foods.
Differential Diagnosis [ Same Signs & Symptoms For Other Disease ]
• Tuberculosis
• Malaria
• Kala-azar
Investigation :
• Blood Test :
Total Count (TC), Differential Count (DC) , Hemoglobin (Hb%),ESR
• Serology [ Diagnostics examination of blood serum ] :
Widal Test [ Presumptive diagnosis of typhoid ]
• Stool Culture in 3rd week and Urine Culture in 4th week
Treatment :
• Bed rest
• Care of mouth,eye,skin
•Tab. Ciprofloxacin 500 mg X 12 hours X 14 days • Chloramphenicol 750 mg X 6- hourly till fever persist then 500 mg X 6 – hourly for 14 days
• Amoxicillin 750 mg X 6 hourly
• Cotrimoxazole 960 mg X 12 hours
Complications :
• Bowel Perforation
• GI bleeding
• Cholecystitis
• Pneumonia
• Myocarditis
• Meningitis
Preventive Measures :
• Public awareness about hand washing
• Pasteurize or boil milk
• Control fly bleeding
Vaccine :
• Monovalent typhoid vaccine
• Bivalent typhoid vaccine
• TAB vaccine
